Stages of Crawling

This video illustrates the development of crawling over several months. There are many different ways of movement visible, even without any expertise, this is apparent. With expertise, one would like to portray the development as a steady progression of motor skills. In broad terms, this is, of course, accurate, but the individual variations in children's movements show that there are so many more possibilities to achieve a goal.

What are the possibilities of movement chains, of each joint, and the strength of the musculature to successfully embark on an adventure and achieve the goal? It should be realized that the variations seen in children are also visible in further motor development. These variations indicate something about the possibilities and (unconscious) choices made in motor movement chains. These choices are determined by the possibilities to achieve the goal with as little energy as possible.
